Simple Concept: _layouts/userdisp.aspx shows 404 not found

[Question]:
How to fix 404 not found on SharePoint 2007/2010 browsing User Profile page _layouts/userdisp.aspx ?

[Answer]:

The userdisp.aspx page code needs to be changed on any servers providing web application services for the site (the web front ends, for example). On the servers, navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS. Make a copy of the userdisp.aspx file – just in case, so you'll have something to revert back to! Open the original using Notepad. Look for Scope="Farm" and change Farm to Web so that it reads Scope="Web". Save and close. Repeat on all web servers

  1. This worked for SharePoint 2010 as well! Spent too long trying to figure out what was wrong with it, since it did work before. But once i setup the MySite, it stopped working and I couldn't figure out why.

Everything I read said that the User Profile Synchronization is either not setup correctly or is corrupted.... and yet still the error occurred for me.

Finally found THIS solution and THIS is what solved it for me!!!!

    THANKS BIG TIME!

  2. Had the same issue. If you look in fiddler, you'll see that userdisp.aspx is actually transfering to the url http://mysiteurl/Person.aspx.

My problem was that the dns for mysites was not registered, so it couldnt forward. Update dns record and ipconfig /flushdns solved the problem.
